Dog rescue charity windfall will help more hounds find homes

MORE dogs are set to find a home in Rugby thanks to a grant from Battersea Dogs Home.

Pawprints Dog Rescue was given £15,000 from Battersea which has enabled a clinical behaviourist to join the team.

Leonie Macdonald will help assess and train the dogs as part of her work with the Rugby-based charity – which rescues dogs from death row in council pounds and rehomes them.

Charity spokeswoman Anita Twigger said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome Leonie to the team as our canine behaviourist and trainer.

“Leonie’s skills and experience will help us rehome more dogs, reduce the length of stay for all of the dogs in our care and help us to increase intake, as we try to meet the demands of the public and organisations we assist.

“We are extremely grateful for the ongoing support from Battersea.”

And Leonie has got a paws up from the dogs at the centre – instantly striking up a bond with long-term rescue Andre.

The young Lucher has been at Pawprints for several months after being taken in as an unclaimed stray, and is desperate for a new home.

Anita added: “Andre is smitten with Leonie. We cannot understand why he is still here as he’s such a lovely dog and so handsome and entertaining.”
