Future looks tasty for rising cookery star Rosie

A RISING cookery star has won through to the regional final of a competition for young chefs.

Rosie Reeve, a Year 8 pupil at Princethorpe College, was crowned the winner of the Springboard Futurechef Local Finals, beating nine other finalists.

They included fellow Princethorpe Year 7 pupil Francesca Kelly – the youngest competitor taking part.

Competing against older pupils from Year 10, they were challenged to cook a two-course meal for two people in 90 minutes on a budget of just £7, under the scrutiny of two professional chef judges.

Rosie, who lives in Broadwell near Southam, created a main course of her own home-reared lamb in a redcurrant and red wine jus served with fondant potatoes, accompanied by a rich chocolate tartlet with vanilla cream quenelle and sesame crisp.

Francesca, from Henley-in-Arden, chose a menu of salmon and dill fish cakes with pea puree, followed by a dessert of shortcake stack with raspberry and vanilla cream.

The judges praised the contestants for the high standard of the dishes produced, before declaring Rosie the overall winner.

Rosie was delighted to be presented with a certificate and a cookbook.

She said: “The standard of the other competitors was amazing. I was so pleased to be given the opportunity to take part and never expected to win”.

Rosie will compete in the Midlands Regional Final on February 10 at Coventry College.
