THE PRINCESS Royal has officially opened Stratford Hospital.
The state-of-the-art hospital on Arden Street welcomed its first patients last year, but was officially opened by Princess Anne today (Tuesday September 25).
After being given a tour of the £22million hospital, the princess met staff, patients and fund-raisers who have helped the trust surpass its £1million target to buy items such as special chemotherapy chairs which are not available on the NHS.
The hospital is ran by South Warwickshire Foundation Trust – which also runs Warwick, Leamington and Ellen Badger sites – and provides specialist cancer and eye units along with a health and wellbeing hub.
Trust chief executive Glen Burley said: “I am delighted that Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal has officially opened Stratford Hospital.
“The new hospital offers exceptional facilities for patients, relatives and staff so it was great to celebrate this with a royal event. We are all very proud of the development and the difference it is already making to the lives of people in Stratford and the surrounding communities. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that made it possible; staff, fundraisers and donors.”
