A MASS brawl broke out at a youth boxing event in Ryton on Dunsmore on Saturday afternoon.

Footage on Twitter showed a man covered in blood wielding an axe, another using a fire extinguisher as a weapon, and other throwing chairs.

Police were called to a report of fighting at the England Boxing Youth Championships being held at the Sports Connexion arena on Leamington Road around 3.20pm.

Four people were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be serious.

No arrests have been made but officers are working to identify those involved and are appealing for information.

Supt Pete Hill from Warwickshire Police said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for members of the public who were at the arena at Sports Connexion and witnessed this large-scale violent disorder.

“We will not tolerate incidents of this nature and are working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“The public can expect to see a heightened police presence in and around the area while officers continue to conduct their enquiries.

“I would urge anyone who may have witnessed this incident, has video footage of the incident or has information that could help with our investigation to please get in touch.

Following consultation with the police, the following day’s planned boxing at the arena was cancelled.

Anyone with any information should call 101 or alternatively, information can be given to independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via its website.
