ENGLISH country gardens will be open to the public in picturesque villages near Rugby this weekend.

Harborough Magna Open Gardens, which takes place on Saturday (June 8) from 11:30am until 4:30pm, will feature many different gardens open to the public, from large walled gardens to tiny cottage gardens, and even a fun display of planted welly boots.

The event also includes a plant sale, as well as an opportunity to browse the wares of local artists from wooden bowls to paintings and ceramics.

Resident Sarah Hawkins said: “Harborough Magna Open Gardens gives opportunity for our whole community to come together, sharing and celebrating our green spaces and reflecting on what makes each of our gardens unique to us.”

Admission costs £5 per party. All proceeds go towards charitable causes in the village. Free car parking will be available off Main Street in the village centre. Refreshments and homemade cakes will be on sale at the Village Hall.

Bourton-on-Dunsmore and Draycote Open Gardens takes place on Sunday (June 9) from noon until 5pm.

Visitors can meet the owners of the 11 gardens and ask questions about planting or attracting wildlife.

The event will also feature a plant sale, a second-hand children’s book sale, a tombola, and a performance by the Bourton Trombones.

Afternoon tea and cakes, organic lamb burgers and sausages, and real dairy ice cream will be on sale.

Admission costs £5 and is free for under-16s. All proceeds will go towards the maintenance of St Peters Church in Bourton-on-Dunsmore.
