Shakespeare's England welcomes government recovery cash

SHAKESPEARE’S England has welcomed the news of nearly £4.5million awarded to Warwickshire attractions as part of the government’s Culture Recovery Fund.

The destination management company says the funding, which has come in the form of loans and grants, will be a welcome boost to many attractions forced to close their doors for most of the past year.

Member organisations which have received help include the British Motor Museum, Compton Verney House Trust, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Museum, Warwick District Council Arts Section, Orchestra of the Swan and Warwickshire County Council’s museums.

The British Motor Museum received £261,500, while Compton Verney was awarded £460,000 and the Shakespeare’s Birthplace Trust was successful in securing a £3million loan.

Chief executive of Shakespeare’s England, Helen Peters, said she was pleased members have been given support and it would help to keep them going through the government’s gradual roadmap to ‘normality’.

She said: “The past year has been an incredibly tough one for all businesses, but the culture and tourism sector is one of the hardest hit.

“I am pleased to see so many members getting grants once again in the second round of funding and it will go a long, long way to get them back on their feet.

“But as we hit these milestone dates on the roadmap to recovery, I would urge people once again to get out and about and support their local attractions.

“By the summer things may be going back to some sort of normality, but our businesses are going to still need a huge amount of support over the coming weeks and months, so let’s get out there safely and show them some love.”
