SLOPPILY painted social distancing lines in Stratford have been branded a ‘mess’.
The white lines and direction arrows, placed on the historic Tramway Bridge and the bridge over the canal Avon junction, were carried out by Stratford District Council in a bid to help people keep two metres apart in line with Government guidance.
But one resident observed: “Difficult times I know, but absolutely appalling job. Paint all over the place. I can’t believe anyone could make such a mess.”
Another said: “Is it wise for someone to have a drink before they go out and attempt to paint a few white lines.”
District council deputy chief executive Tony Perks admitted the lines may not be perfect but added they were doing an important job.
He told The Observer: “In light of the changes to the lockdown arrangements it was decided to implement a keep left system on the pedestrian footbridges to improve pedestrian circulation.
“In order to get this in place for the weekend we installed temporary markings using a white lining machine. Whilst these may not be perfect, I understand that they proved effective and can be replaced when a more permanent solution is available.”
