BOWLS - Warwickshire Women beaten by rivals Worcestershire

WARWICKSHIRE Women suffered a 112-78 defeat to local rivals Worcestershire at Broadway Bowling Club surrounded by beautiful countryside.

Highest Winning Rink, after a recount of ends won, went to Jenny Corn with Donna Kerr (both Lillington), Sharon Keal (Stratford) and Vivienne Belt (Sherwood Park) who were evenly matched at 11-all at 14 ends before winning 15-13 by two shots.

Mary Wheildon (Warwick Boat Club) with Lynne Innes (Stratford), Sandra Payne (RLS) and Wendy Holloway (Welford) had a similar game as 12-all at 14 ends before pulling ahead to win 17-15.

Maureen Edwards (Rugby Thornfield) with Hazel Goodman (Lillington), Joy Cooke (Sherwood Park) and Elspeth Summers (Stratford) were evenly matched for the first half of their match before pulling ahead only for the opposition to draw level and finish the game tied at 16-all.




Trish Jarvis with Liz Crispin (both Wolvey), Linda Linney (Stratford) and Chris Cooke (Southam) were seven-all at eight ends before the opposition took hold of the game and ran out 21-14 winners.

Pat Moore (Three Spires) with Pippa Mace (Lillington), Sigrid Thomas (Rugby Thornfield) and Margaret Colvin (Stratford) had a similar game on their way to a 20-12 defeat.


Elaine Taylor with Aleen Shuttleworth (both Stoke), Margaret Stephens and Jayne Henfrey (both Lillington) struggled from the outset as they lost 27-4.

County President Debbie Bloxham was delighted to finish the day by presenting Sandra Payne (RLS) with her Colt Badge.

And Warwickshire were also narrowly beaten 124-109 by Gloucestershire to suffer defeat in the Middle England League at Barnwood Bowling Club.

Highest Winning Rink went to Jenny Corn with Margaret Grosvenor (both Lillington), Ros Taylor (Avenue Coventry) and Aleen Shuttleworth (Stoke) who started strongly and claimed five shots on the 17th end to win 25-14.

Debbie Bloxham with Sharon Keal, Linda Linney (all Stratford) and Joy Cooke (Sherwood Park) were 10-all at 11 ends before clinging on and claiming a 19-17 victory with the game in the balance until the last end.

Maureen Edwards (Rugby Thornfield) with Pippa Mace (Lillington), Liz Crispin and Trish Jarvis (both Wolvey) were at 13-all at 12 ends but were eventually edged out 22-20.

Janice White with Jenny Wickens (both RLS), Velisa Brown (Southam) and Vivienne Belt (Sherwood Park) looked in control after taking a commanding 15-6 lead at 10 ends only for a remarkable comeback from their opponents to see them lose 23-20.

Heather Mills (Grange Ladies) with Dawn Horne (RLS), Donna Kerr (Lillington) and Di Medhurst (Sherwood Park) did well to recover from a slow start to finish five shots off the pace at 18-13.

Lastly, Chris Cooke (Southam) with Lynne Innes (Stratford), Elaine Taylor (Stoke) and Liz Crowther (Lillington) also struggled on their way to a 30-12 defeat.
