Rugby Editorial 5th Aug, 2022   0

WARWICKSHIRE Women made sure their journey to Somerset was worthwhile with a 106-90 victory at Mark Moor Bowling Club although temperatures failed to reach record levels as forecasted.

Highest Winning Rink went to Maureen Edwards (Rugby Thornfield) with Velisa Brown (Southam), Margaret Stephens (Lillington) and Elaine Taylor (Stoke) set off strongly and just kept going eventually winning 32-6.

Donna Kerr (Lillington) with Sharon Keal (Stratford), Joy Cooke (Sherwood Park) and Ros Taylor (Avenue Coventry) were fairly evenly matched with their opposition level pegging on the 5th end 4 all, 13th – 10 all and 16th-12 all but 5 shots on the 17th end made all the difference giving them a final score of 17-13.

Debbie Bloxham (Stratford) with Celia Bellamy (Warwick Boat Club), Vivienne Belt (Sherwood Park) and Caroline Harris (Nuneaton) were also evenly matched for the first half of the game but stuck on 8 shots for 4 ends while the opposition pulled away but the last third of the game went to Warwickshire and they just managed a win 19-18.

Mary Wheildon (Warwick Boat Club) with Hazel Goodman (Lillington), Jean Veart (Nuneaton) and Linda Linney (Stratford) started slowly and although they were level 9 all at 13 ends and 12 all at 17 the last end saw them lose two shots to go 12-14 down.

Jenny Corn (Lillington) with Lynne Innes, Pam Jowers and Elspeth Summers (all Stratford) were under the cosh from the start but managed to pull back in the latter half of the game before finishing 12-17.

Pat Moore (Three Spires) with Pippa Mace (Lillington), Di Wilkinson (Stoke) and Jean Williams (Stratford) fought hard but weren’t able to hold the opposition back eventually losing 14-22.

County President, Debbie Bloxham, was delighted to present a Colt Badge to Chris Hurst (Warwick Boat Club) before thanking Mark Moor BC for their excellent hospitality.

And, after a long coach trip to Somerset, the following day saw the County Ladies at home to Herefordshire at Lillington Bowling Club.

Whilst there were no hurricanes and the sunshine continued unabated, Herefordshire were in no mood to let Warwickshire win and finished the day with a 79-92 victory.

Highest Winning Rink went to Debbie Bloxham (Stratford) with Jacqui Ashley (Warwick Boat Club), Brenda Beere (Grange Ladies) and Denise Judge (Bilton) who started determinedly and continued in that vein eventually finishing with a 15-10 win.

Mary Wheildon with Chris Hurst (both Warwick Boat Club), Dawn Horne (RLS) and Vanessa Brazier (Rugby Railway) were the only other winning rink, no doubt helped by 6 shots on the 3rd end, and holding on to a 2 shot lead to finish 17-15.

Heather Mills (Grange Ladies) with Anita Cowdrill (RLS), Joy Cooke (Sherwood Park) and Pat Gagg (Lillington) were fairly evenly matched which was reflected in the final score – an honourable draw 14 all.

Donna Kerr with Margaret Stephens (both Lillington), Pat Dahlgren (Bilton) and Pat Lowe (Rugby Thornfield) were also evenly matched with their opponents but couldn’t quite get the win and finished 11-15 down.

Chris Cooke (Southam) with Christine Harding (Rugby Thornfield), Janet Miller (Grange Ladies) and Jenny Wickens (RLS) started slowly, pulled back well in the last 5 ends but finished trailing 12-17.

Janice White (RLS) with Thelma Orberson (Avenue Coventry), Joan Hollis (Bilton) and Tracy Wheeler (Welford) took 5 shots on the 3rd end but were held at bay by their opponents from there until the 10th end and unable to pull back eventually finishing 10-21.

County President, Debbie Bloxham (Stratford) was delighted to present a Colt Badge to Chris Hurst (Warwick Boat Club).
