RUGBY Swimming Club’s artistic swimmers won an impressive haul of medals at the Regional Age Groups competition held at Walsall Gala Baths in the first event of the calendar year.

The club came away with 13 medals which included seven gold, five silver and a bronze in a fine start to the new season.

Rugby’s swimmers have worked hard on their routines over the past few months and the club swept the board in the figure competition in the 12 and under age group as Lola Huett won gold, Keva Ennis took silver and Frankie Klym claimed bronze.

And Huett also won gold in the solo competition as she scored 120.0489 points to finish 10 points clear of her closest challenger in a sensational display of athleticism.

The under-12 mixed duet of Aaron Lee and Ennis took gold with a score of 109.8688 points whilst Huett and Klym also struck gold with their duet and scored 116.7045 to finish some 12 points clear of their rivals.

And there was also gold for Rugby’s 13 to 15 years combo (Division Two) Disco team who scored 57.3333 as Saranne Black, Kitty Tyers, Olivia Barry, Alexa Holland, Sophie Henry, Eve Nelson, Choe Barrett-Leafe and Emilia Owen all swam superbly.

Rugby’s under-12 Free team won gold with their Atomic Fireballs music theme with a combined score of 107.1901 as Lee, Ennis, Klyn, Huett, Amelie Jeary, Darcey Townsend and Lois Banadaki all claimed medals.

The club’s final gold of the day was won by their 13 to 15 years Lion King free team as Olivia Barry, Chloe Bartholomew, Imogen Ravenhall, Alexa Holland, Sophie Henry, Tyra Watson, Chloe Barrett-Leafe and Eve Nelson produced a combined score of 116.1432 to finish six points clear of their nearest challengers.

And Watson and Bartholomew claimed silver with a beautifully swam duet as the pair scored 122.7243 to add to the club’s medal tally.

The team medals continued to flow as Rugby’s Team Mambo won silver in the 13 to 15 years Division One category as Kara Duckett, Daisy Jenkins, Mabel Chapman, Isabella Franks, Alice Pavlova, Isabella Flaig, Daisy Clark, Beatrice Banks, Isobel Byrne and Georgina Stoddart scored 51.8000 to finish just 0.0333 behind the gold medal winners.

And Rugby’s combination Team Dance won silver in the Division One 12 and under category thanks to fine swims from Sophie Croft, Elise Kelly, Caitlin Rose-Smith, Charlotte Wilkins, Isobelle Watkins, Olly Heard, Kara Anstruther, Lucy King, Melinda Bogdanova and Sophia Myronova as the team scored 41.8000 to finish less than a point outside of the gold medal position.

Another team medal was won by Rugby’s Division Two 15 and over Rock and Roll combo team as Amy Buckley, Rebecca Harper, Freya Twiss, Natalia Rodriguez, Jasmine Farr, Lily and Lilet, Edith John, Jessica Barrett-Leafe, Hattie McMillan and Ariane Sargent scored 58.7000 to win silver.

Lastly, Imogen Ravenhall performed a confident solo to win bronze with a score of 122.7607 in the 13 to 15 years age group whilst Tyra Watson, Alexa Holland and Chloe Bartholomew all placed against Birmingham’s GB swimmers.

And Sophie Henry was awarded swimmer of the meet by Rugby’s head coach for an outstanding performance and great sportsmanship.

Next up for Rugby’s swimmers are the National Age Groups held in Gloucester on March 25 and 26.
