KENILWORTH began their 45-over mini-league season in WCCL South East Group A with an 80-run victory over Berkswell 2nds at Warwick Road.
Kenilworth batted first and initially limped to 56-6 after 28 overs before Jono Sparks and Matt Casey shared in a solid 16 overs and 96-run partnership for the seventh wicket to boost the side’s score.
Casey made 38 (4×4) before being run out whilst Sparks made his first half century of the year, hitting a fine 58 with nine boundaries. Joe Atkinson had earlier chipped in with 17.
Aspinall and Cooke both claimed 2-21 for Berkswell and Blundell 2-23, whilst Nigel took 2-11 from his nine overs as Kenilworth made 164-8.
In reply, Berkswell found conditions equally difficult with only Brammer 15, Blundell 13 and Coleman 12 managing to reach double figures as Kenilworth’s bowlers took control.
Atkinson took a fine 3-13, Charlie Stranks 2-9 and Casey 2-13, whilst there was a wicket apiece for Darius Potten-Ravenshad and Stuart Cope as Berkswell were bowled out for 84 with 16 overs remaining.
HUNNINGHAM proved far too strong for Kenilworth 2nds who were beaten by eight wickets in WCCL South East Group C.
Kenilworth could only muster 95 in 36.2 overs and this was thanks in the main to skipper Sam Leach who hit 41 with eight boundaries after Mark Stranks had made 13, but they were the only players to reach double figures.
Munday took 3-10 from his fine and frugal nine overs, whilst there were a brace of wickets for Hunningham’s Canning, Sanghera and 2-5 from Bird in his tight nine overs, whilst King picked up the other one to fall.
Hunningham easily reached the winning line and 97-2 inside 23 overs with Kenilworth spinner Tom Skinner taking 2-26 from his nine overs.
LONG ITCHINGTON 2nds were too good for Kenilworth 3rds in a 106-run victory.
Opener Campbell made a fine 90, Greaves 41 not out and Pratt 23 in Long Itchington’s total of 212-5 in their CHL Shield C mini-league match.
Kenilworth’s Ed Smith took 3-18 bowling with his fiery pace, whilst youngsters Kieran Umashanker and Louis Smithson took the other wickets to fall.
In reply, Kenilworth’s batsmen struggled with the accuracy of the Long Itchington bowling attack and from early on the result was never in doubt.
Hart took 2-6 from his fine eight overs and Hill 2-13 from his seven, overs whilst Bostock and Hawkesworth took the other wickets to fall as Kenilworth could only muster 105-6 when their innings closed.
Smith hit an entertaining unbeaten 28 with four boundaries late on, whilst obdurate youngster Yash Joshi made a patient 21 and David Smithson 15 in the side’s total.
