Band featuring ex-Dubliners to play Rugby gig

Rugby Editorial 16th Mar, 2019   0

FORMER members of The Dubliners will perform in Rugby on the penultimate date of their national tour next weekend.

The Dublin Legends formed when founding Dubliners member Barney McKenna died in 2012 and fellow band member John Sheahans decided to retire.

The remaining members – including singer Sean Cannon – will take to the stage at the Benn Hall to perform songs such as Whiskey in The Jar, Dirty Old Town, The Wild Rover, Seven Drunken Nights, The Rare Auld Times, Molly Malone, The Irish Rover and Black Velvet Band.

The band also includes Shay Kavanagh – a stalwart of the Irish Folk music scene who co-founded General Humbert and has played with The Dublin City Ramblers for many years – who joined in 2017 when guitarist and founder Eamonn Campbell passed away while on tour in Holland.

It was Eamonn’s wish for the band to continue touring and finish off recording the album they had been working on, a follow-up to The Dublin Sessions.

The concert takes place on Saturday March 23. Visit www.bennhall.com for more information and tickets.
