Paul Weller plays Warwick Arts Centre

PAUL Weller returns to Warwick Arts Centre next spring.

The veteran singer-songwriter plays the Butterworth Hall on Tuesday March 10 as part of a short UK tour promoting his as yet unnamed 12th studio album.

Weller exploded on the music scene during the punk era as frontman with The Jam over 30 years ago. They became the biggest band in Britain with four number ones to their name, when at the height of their popularity, Weller decided he wanted a new challenge.

He went on to form the jazz/pop, soul outfit The Style Council and when they rather fizzled out it looked like the singer-songwriter’s days as cultural icon were drawing to a close.

But Weller was soon to return with his eponymous solo album in 1992, and he has never looked back since, releasing classic albums such as Wild Wood and Stanley Road, and always looking to explore new musical territory. His last solo album, Sonik Kicks reached number 1 in the UK charts.

Other popular music highlights at the centre next year include Scot folk rockers The Waterboys promoting their new album Modern Blues on Monday February 2, arriving three days after fellow Scots songsmith King Creosote who will be showcasing his new album From Scotland With Love.

Singer-songwriter José González returns to the live scene with a new album under his

belt, and can be seen and heard on Friday March 13, while The Unthanks sisters bring their folk sound to centre on Sunday March 8.

The Levellers perform a live acoustic set after a special screening of the documentary charting their rise to fame, A Curious Life, on Sunday March 1, while veteran Irish songstress Mary Black stops off on her final UK tour on Thursday May 14, before Al Stewart arrives to perform an acoustic version of his classic Year of the cat album on Wednesday May 20.
