Popular shows that would make great games

Rugby Editorial 24th Oct, 2024   0

From ‘Fallout’ to ‘The Last of Us,’ video games and television have crossed paths on many occasions throughout the history of visual media, and the aforementioned two were exceptional watches, if I do say so myself.

However, what have TV executives and video game developers excluded from their think tanks when looking for the next big crossover hit?  We’ve seen many games become television shows, but what TV shows would perfectly transition to our video game consoles?

Now that it has been demonstrated how TV and video gaming adaptations are feasible, shall we look at some hit shows that warrant such treatment?

Here are a few concepts that Hollywood may utilise at no cost:

Yellowjackets

Where to Watch: Amazon Prime

Genre: Psychological Drama/Horror/Mystery

Potential Game Genre: Survival Horror

I have not been as invested in a group of individuals crash-landing on an island since Lost, even though Yellowjackets feature fewer smoke creatures and more cannibalism.

Nevertheless, it is the perfect foundation for a remarkable horror survival game. It has the potential to be a distinctive take on games such as Sons of the Forest, in which the player is stranded on an island inhabited by cannibals.

Narcos

Where to Watch: Netflix

Genre: Crime Drama

Potential Game Genre: Open World/Action Adventure

Narcos is a drama/thriller series that depicts the real-life narcotic trade that occurred in Colombia during the 1980s and 1990s and subsequently expanded into Mexico. This action-packed and exhilarating film features a diverse array of vibrant, real-life-inspired characters, and we believe its storyline could inspire the perfect video game adaptation.

A video game based on Narcos is already in existence. However, it is not the Narcos video game that we all desire and deserve. A Narcos video game would resemble Mafia, GTA, or Red Dead Redemption in an ideal world. We want a Narcos game characterised by an open world in which players can eliminate the drug cartel at their own pace and in their manner, utilising a diverse array of firearms and vehicles. Naturally, it would necessitate a well-crafted, historically accurate narrative.

Yes, I know, expert online casinos have some pretty cool Narcos slot machines, and Curve Games did create Narcos: Rise of the Cartels in 2019. However, Curve’s strategy/RPG just didn’t hit right, and with the right team *cough, Rockstar or 2K, cough,* Narcos has endless potential.

Penguin

Where to Watch: HBO Max

Genre: Crime/Drama/Fantasy

Potential Game Genre: Open World/Action Adventure

It is a recent addition to our television screens, but it is a fitting choice given that Joker 2 was an utter flop. In ‘Penguin,’ Oz Cobb, also known as the Penguin, attempts to assume control of the criminal underworld in Gotham following the events of The Batman (2022).

Batman’s arch-nemesis, Penguin, is an iconic Warner Bros. adversary yet to be featured in his own video game. The foundation for a Penguin game is already in place, thanks to the success of Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham series and Insomniac’s Spider-Man games. Develop combat and exploration mechanics comparable to those of the aforementioned superhero games while simultaneously identifying distinctive methods to integrate Penguin’s malevolence into the gameplay.

In a narrative sense, it is feasible to construct an original narrative that reverses the roles of Batman games, with Penguin facing off against an infinite number of police officers or heroes. The cadence of a video game story would ensure that it would be nothing short of incredible.

Alice In Borderland

Where to Watch: Netflix

Genre: Horror

Potential Game Genre: Survival Horror

If this series were adapted into a video game, players would have the opportunity to experience the pinnacle of survival in the streets of a dystopian Tokyo. They would be required to overcome lethal obstacles, similar to those depicted on the screen, as they investigate this eerie alternate reality.

Furthermore, the game may have replay value due to the variety of characters available, each with their own distinctive abilities. Additionally, the audience would be enthralled by the combination of a captivating storyline, strategic thinking, suspense, and intense action.

Squid Game

Where to Watch: Netflix

Genre: Horror/Drama/Thriller

Potential Game Genre: Platform battle royale

Squid Game is a Korean television program in which contestants in dire straits enter a game show-like environment reminiscent of Big Brother and Takeshi’s Castle. However, the consequences are significantly more lethal and perilous than those of those shows. The objective is to survive, and the victorious party receives a substantial sum of money.

Then again, you probably already know this because I’ve yet to meet someone who hasn’t watched or heard of ‘Squid Game,’ the most-watched Netflix show in the streaming company’s history.

Therefore, a video game is a must! The most effective approach would be creating a Squid Game video game similar to Fall Guys but emphasising action and gore more. The game would primarily focus on combat rather than narrative or character development, and it would be inspired by the film Battle Royale…. It sounds perfect!

Netflix did drop a trailer for its own Squid Game video game, but it’s mobile and doesn’t look great. We’re looking for something that receives the same amount of effort that Hwang Dong-hyuk put into creating the television series.
