OVER 70 local youngsters will be in the spotlight when Rugby Theatre’s annual Summer Youth Project returns with a quirky musical comedy next week.
Based on the cartoons and TV show of the same name, The Addams Family features a cast aged between 10-21.
The show tells the story of 18-year-old Wednesday Addams, who has fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable background. But everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents.
Youth Project director Phil Kettle said: “The Addams Family is a quirky musical comedy of love and deception with the strangest family in town. It has to be seen to be believed.
“The show will be performed by more than 70 of Rugby’s talented youngsters, with a further 12 backstage as techies – great fun for all the cast and crew.
“Youth Project participants are aged between 10-21 and put together a high-quality show after just 10 days of intensive rehearsals, guided by a dedicated team and a professional director.”
The theatre’s artistic director Robert Sloan added: “I’m incredibly proud of what the Youth Theatre continues to accomplish year on year and especially now, in Rugby Theatre’s 70th year, I am thrilled that the youth of Rugby will be staging such a fun and ambitious show.”
The show opens on Wednesday July 31 and runs until Sunday August 4, with matinees on August 3-4 and BSL-signed performances on the Thursday and Sunday shows.
