Singing contest and open Lloyd-Webber singalong sees Rugby in fine song this weekend

Rugby Editorial 16th Mar, 2018   0

THE BEST voices in Rugby will battle it out this weekend in a new singing contest.

Rugby’s Young Vocalist 2018 will celebrate local young talent and give them a chance to showcase their skills in front of industry experts and talent scouts.

Contestants aged from eight to 18 will battle it out to take home the trophy, along with a professional recording studio session at Born in a Barn Studios and a £50 Beatbox Music Tuition voucher.

The competition, co-organised by ASH Stage Productions, will be judged by award-winning professional soprano and expert vocal coach Naomi Hickman, Rugby Theatre director, actor, writer and former rock band front man Simon Burne, Rugby FM’s breakfast show host Jason Moss, and Mayor Belinda Garcia.

The live final takes place on Saturday (March 17) at The Rugby Workers Club, Oliver Street. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Tickets (£5 each; under-8s free) are available at www.rugbysyoungvocalistoftheyear.weebly.com or on 01788 569718. Tickets will also be available on the door.

RUGBEIANS with a song in their heart are invited to lend their voices to songs from an Andrew Lloyd-Webber hit show at an informal community sing-in at St Andrew’s Church on Saturday (March 17).

Participants can turn up to the church between 10am and 12noon, when songs from Cats will be rehearsed and performed all in one morning – to celebrate Lloyd-Webber’s impending 70th birthday.

No previous choral experience is needed.
