A SPLASH-hit musical is coming to the Benn Hall this month.
A production of Singin’ in the Rain by the Five Star Theatre group will take to the stage on Friday October 20 and Saturday October 21 – complete with a live orchestra.
One of the most popular classic musicals, it’s memorable songs and comical characters were made famous in a Gene Kelly-starring Hollywood film 60 years ago.
Director and producer Ethan J Smith said: “We are already extremely excited to be creating our own rain effects on the Benn Hall stage, but the fact that we are performing to a 12-piece live orchestra, after two years of using backing tracks, is going to bring this show up to a whole new level.”
The show tells the story of famous Hollywood silent film duo Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont. With the onset of the ‘talkies’, Monumental Pictures has to modernise – but their leading lady, who until now has remained silent, has a voice like nails down a chalkboard! A love story unfolds as the studio works around Lina’s awful voice.
Hit songs include Good Morning, You Stepped Out of a Dream, Moses Supposes and, of course, the famous title track.
Performances take place at 7.30pm on the Friday, and 2.30pm and 7.30pm on the Saturday. Visit www.bennhall.com or call 01788 533719 for tickets (from £10).
