Boxing has been popular across the world for centuries. There have been many legendary fighters who have broken records and left significant legacies within the sport.
Fighting talent often runs in families and many of the most successful boxers of all time have been the result of knowledge and expertise passed down through generations.
The Furys have a strong claim to being the greatest boxing family in the history of their sport. They boast a number of professionals within their family tree. But there is certainly some strong opposition from the past.
The Fury’s professional stars
The Fury family is a boxing family that goes back decades in terms of their representation at the professional level.
In modern times, Tyson Fury is their standout star as he is one of the greatest heavyweights there has ever been. However, his half-brother Tommy Fury also regularly claims the headlines due to his involvement in the hugely popular Misfits promotion.
Crossover boxing is a relatively recent development in which professionals face online stars who boast huge followings. The latest headline bout sees Tommy face content creator KSI. In the odds on Tommy Fury vs KSI, the former is the 3/10 favorite, with huge pressure on him to not tarnish the family’s legacy.
Tyson has been completely dominant at the peak level of the sport throughout his career. Meanwhile, Tommy has opted to fight against amateur opposition. However, competing against huge online stars could be hugely beneficial in terms of spreading his name and ultimately the family name all over the globe.
There have also been many other admirable fighters within the Fury family. The brothers’, father John Fury, was a professional in the 1980s. He put up a record of eight wins and four losses during his career, and he has gone on to play a significant role in the training and development of his sons.
Tyson’s cousin Hughie Fury is also a professional heavyweight boxer who once held the British heavyweight title at a regional level.

The other Furys besides the most notable two, were perhaps not as impressive. However, Tyson and Tommy alone make the family one of the greatest in boxing history. The former has a strong claim to being one of the greatest boxers ever, and Tommy is an immensely popular individual both with fans of boxing and beyond.
The great boxing families of the past
When all is said and done, the Furys could make themselves the greatest boxing family ever. But for now, there are a few successful families of the past that can rival their impact on the sport.
The Mayweather family featured a number of top fighters from past generations. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is of course the biggest name having experienced an unbeaten 50-fight career. He also won 12 world championships across five weight classes.

Like John Fury, his father played a significant role in his training and was once a competitive professional himself. Mayweather Sr’s brother, Roger was a two-time world champion which is what makes the family legacy so impressive beyond Mayweather Jr.’s achievements. Besides the Mayweathers, there are the iconic Klitschko brothers and the Mexican Marquez brothers. The Furys are certainly not short of competition when it comes to legendary boxing families, but their legacy is already huge and it has plenty of time to be extended.
If Tyson ends his career unbeaten, and Tommy continues his rise in success and widespread fandom, then the Furys could eventually be renowned as the greatest family in the sport ever.
