A discovery den on wheels is travelling around Warwickshire

A DISCOVERY den on wheels is the latest addition to Warwickshire’s mobile library fleet.

It will provide a safe and inclusive space for children, young people, and adults with additional and more complex needs and has been funded with £373,000 from the Libraries Improvement Fund handed out by Arts Council England.

The Discovery Den will be fully equipped with an interactive sensory room as well as a selection of specialist books. It will also host sessions to support children, young people and adults with additional needs.

The electric powered mobile sensory library will be taken out into local communities across the county, reaching people who might otherwise find the traditional library experience more challenging.

Warwickshire County Council’s transformation spokesperson Coun Yousef Dahmash said: “We are already embracing sensory support as part of our child friendly offer in Warwickshire libraries, with our sensory story time sessions, accessibility guides and resources available to borrow when visiting, and the Discovery Den will enhance this further.

“It enables us to take the library service into local communities across the county supporting and inspiring an ongoing journey of discovery, connection and imagination.”

And later this year, WCC is planning to launch two more new electric mobile libraries. They will be bright and modern and will be fitted with a lift to provide improved accessibility for customers.
