All aboard as mini railway attraction begins new season

Rugby Editorial 3rd Apr, 2023   0

IT’S FULL steam ahead for a miniature railway in Rugby as it begins its new season during the Easter school holidays.

The Rainsbrook Valley Railway is about to begin its first full season open to the public following almost three years of restricted running during the pandemic.

Run by the Rugby Model Engineering Society, the Onley Lane site is one of the longest ground level and raised miniature railway tracks in the midlands.

On Wednesday (April 5), the one-mile track will be open to the public, with as many as six trains running at once running from 1-3pm.

And it will be open on the third Sunday of every month until October.

The society has been busy catching up on track and landscape maintenance that had to be put off during Covid restrictions.

A new clubhouse is nearing completion, and expected to be partially open to the public at the April events.

Built almost entirely by the club’s members and financed through ticket sales and donations, the clubhouse will house a cafeteria, ticket office and new toilets once complete.

New sidings have also been installed between the main station and engine sheds.

Tickets must be booked in advance. Visit www.rugbymes.co.uk. Refreshments and tables will be available.
