Ancient Japanese percussion performance to sound the gong on Rugby World Cup celebrations

AN ANCIENT Japanese form of percussion will make its Rugby debut on the final evening of the town’s World Cup celebrations.

Tsuchicugo Daiko will showcase their high-energy Taiko drumming in a performance at the Macready Theatre on Sunday (November 2).

Earlier that day the group will invite the public to test their skills, stamina and co-ordination at a two-hour workshop.

Taiko drumming is more than 2,000 years old and – as a philosophy, a martial art and an artistic discipline – has a strong presence in many aspects of Japanese culture.

The workshop takes place from 2-4pm, with the performance at 7.30-9pm.
