Armed police rush to reports of shooting in Hillmorton

ARMED police rushed to Hillmorton yesterday afternoon (Saturday June 16) after reports a man had been shot in the head.

The man was found with a head wound in School Street at around 3.15pm. Officers found a gun at the scene but now believe the victim was hit on the head.

He is currently in hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A man and woman have been arrested and are in police custody.




Superintendent Emma Bastone said: “We do not believe the firearm was discharged and we believe the injured man suffered his injuries after being struck on the head.

“Incidents of this nature are incredibly rare in the town and we responded quickly and appropriately to ensure the safety of the public.


“We will have extra officers in the area throughout the evening to offer reassurance to residents and carry out enquiries.”
