Ashlawn School welcomes Royal representative

A ROYAL representative visited Ashlawn School to talk about his important role in the county.

After a guided tour from Head Students Adam Crosby-Smith and Gabrielle Brown, High Sheriff of Warwickshire Simon Miesegaes led a special assembly.

He spoke about his duty to act as the Queen’s representative in Warwickshire for all matters relating to the judiciary and maintaining law and order, and his extensive charity and community work.

Discussing the importance of the rule of law, Mr Miesegaes praised the school’s work to promote fundamental British values across the school, with topics also including democracy, individual liberty, tolerance and acceptance.

He also spoke about the importance of supporting others to make the community a better place – using the example of Kissing it Better, a charity which encourages young people to spend time with older vulnerable people in hospitals, care homes and the community.

School principal Siobhan Evans said: “Our thanks go to the High Sheriff for making the visit such a rewarding and thought-provoking experience for our students.

“At a time when young people are often stereotyped as having a negative impact on local communities, I am proud that our students care deeply about supporting others.

“In particular, our student council have been inspired to contribute to a number of community projects to help our local area. It is a valuable opportunity for our students to take on personal responsibilities, caring for others and becoming good British citizens.”
