Author signs up for reading challenge

FANTASY children’s author Julia Wills will sign copies of her first book at Rugby Library on Thursday, August 21.

The Clifton Road-based writer, who also works a part-time as a legal secretary at Brethertons Solicitors, launched her fantasy-comedy adventure Fleeced! in January.

She came up with the story – which follows a bald, magical ram determined to get his golden fleece back after it was stolen by Jason and the Argonauts – when she was a teacher at Guilsborough Primary School.

She said: “Being a published author is a dream come true for me.

“I am really looking forward to meeting all of the young readers at Rugby library and introducing them to my character, Aries.”

Coun Kam Kaur said: “I am delighted we have been lucky enough to get Julia Wills to attend a book signing at my local library.

“It is essential we encourage children to read and research has proved children who use the public library are twice as likely to be above average readers than their peers. This event may also introduce children to the library, who up until now, haven’t seen all that the library has to offer.”

Fleeced! has also been chosen for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, which encourages children aged four to 11 to read six books during the long summer holiday.
