Avon Valley GCSE pupils 'have risen to the challenge'

AVON Valley pupils improved on last year’s GCSE results in English and Maths.

Some 63 per cent of students achieved a standard pass of grade 4 or above in both subjects.

Star performers included Ruby Miah (five 9s, one 8, two 7s), Tia Andrews (six 9s, one 6, one 5), Rebecca Prestidge (four 9s, one 8, two 7s, Music Level 2 Merit)

and Jamie Saunders (four 9s, two 8s, one 5).

Head teacher Alison Davies said: “I am delighted that students have achieved such a good set of results and that all the hard work put in by students, staff and parents has paid off.

“Now that all exams are on the new specifications with the 1-9 grading, students have to sit significantly more exams than with the old A*-G specifications. To do well students have to show real dedication to their studies and I am really pleased to see that our students have risen to the challenge.

“I would like to congratulate the class of 2019 and wish them all the very best as they move on to the next stage of their education.”
