Avon Valley School appoints new student leaders

AVON Valley School has appointed its new senior student leaders for the 2020/21 academic year.

New Year 11 students Dominic Evans and Katie Wright have taken up their roles as head boy and head girl.

During the lockdown period, over 20 students applied for the positions. Those shortlisted went into the school for a socially distanced interview with the headteacher and their house’s achievement leader – many of them experiencing an interview situation for the first time.

Due to the school’s closure, Dominic and Katie had to wait until their first day back at school to find out they had been successful.

The head boy, head girl – supported by a deputy head boy and deputy head girl, and senior house prefects – represent the school’s student community, serve as ambassadors at school events, and act as positive role models for the school’s younger students.

Head teacher Alison Davies said: “Despite being away from school when the application opened it was brilliant to receive so many applications from across the year group.

“Both Dominic and Katie have shown themselves to be committed and hardworking students during their time with us at AVS. They are both wonderful role models who all other students can look up to.

“This year will be different for everyone, and it will present many challenges, but I am sure that Dominic and Katie will be innovative and will do a fantastic job in their new roles.”
