‘THE BIGGEST heart in the world’ belongs to a ten-year-old dog lover who spent all of her £250 charity raffle prize on treats and toys for dogs in kennels.
Millie McGahey entered into Pawprints Dog Rescue’s Christmas Raffle and was delighted when she won the top prize.
But instead of stocking up on toys, the kind-hearted Abbots Farm Junior pupil went to the nearest pet shop and bought supplies for the dogs at the Rugby-based rehoming centre.
The youngster took the goodies to the charity and met some of their newest arrivals – three puppies named Elfie, Cranberry and Cratchet.
Charity spokeswoman Anita Twigger said: “Millie has been a huge supporter of Pawprints from a very young age and always thinks of the dogs.
“She gave the pups their first ever presents – more than they have ever had before.
“Her kindness and generosity is beyond amazing. She has the biggest heart in the world and we are so grateful to have such a wonderful member of our team.”
Pawprints saves dogs – including many strays which have served seven days in council pounds and face being put to sleep – and finds them new homes.
To help with its life-saving work the charity has launched an appeal to raise £10,000 for vet bills over the coming year.
The charity says it spends some £25,000 on vet fees annually, and along with neutering, vaccinations and microchipping for all of their dogs, also help sick and injured strays when local authorities cannot meet the cost.
Anita added: “We have had many cases of dogs with broken limbs from involvement in road accidents, some dogs abandoned due to complex and expensive medical needs and others that have been purposefully injured through neglect and abuse.
“If the vet’s prognosis is favourable, we believe every dog deserves a chance to survive.”
