Big weekend ahead at Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome

Rugby Editorial 15th Sep, 2017   0

BRUNTINGTHORPE Aerodrome is preparing for a big weekend – including an evening of entertainment from two of the UK’s most popular tribute acts, an aerial display, and opportunities to ride in a variety of supercars.

This year’s annual On Your Marks fundraising event – originally a fun day at Bruntingthorpe for ASDA staff and their families to raise funds for charity – will be open to the public on September 16-17.

This year’s event will see a return of the supercars – in which passenger rides can be bought – along with the Vertical Trix display teams, the Russ Swift stunt team and the Leicestershire police dog display team.

There will also be opportunities to get behind the wheel of karts, 4x4s and even HGVs, as well as a funfair for the younger children.

Aviation fans will be treated to displays along Bruntingthorpe’s two-mile runway by jet aircraft from the Cold War Collection, which is permanently housed at the proving ground, or can even take to the skies in a helicopter.

Ford’s newest small car and two top tribute acts come together on the Saturday for a ‘Night of Tributes’, with Queen and Rod Stewart cover bands.

When the ASDA employees who organised the event stepped down last year, the Walton family, owners of Bruntingthorpe, announced they would take over the event.

They extended it to two days, have opened the gates to everyone, and will support Cancer Research, Wishes for Kids and Help the Heroes – plus a new Bruntingthorpe Local Community Fund.

Managing director, Dave Walton, said: “Over the years On Your Marks has raised nearly £500,000 for a number of deserving charities. We didn’t want such a popular event to disappear and the huge financial support for the benefiting charities to end.

“Joining those charities this year will be a new fund designed specifically to benefit local communities and good causes who are Bruntingthorpe’s neighbours. We appreciate their continuing support and it is right that they too should benefit from On Your Marks now that it is being run by us.”
