A RESIDENT at a nursing home in Harborough Magna has celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family.
Brenda Slater was born at home in Magnet Lane, Bilton in July 1919 – one of nine siblings.
During the Second World War, she worked at BTH Lampworks and met Robson, a soldier, who she later married at St Mark’s church in Bilton.
They later moved to Fostered Road in Newbold and went on to have a son, Mark. They were married for 54 years.
Mark remembers his mum having various part time jobs and that she enjoyed gardening and making sloe gin.
He said she often would tell him about the time when, aged around 11 or 12, she saw airships being tested in the sky over Dunchurch.
She has lived at St Mary’s Nursing Home since March 2013 and still enjoys her full English breakfast every morning.
