Buoyant boating charity seeks new volunteers

A BUOYANT boating charity based near Rugby is seeking new volunteers to help introduce community groups and organisations to the delights of local canals.

LNBP Community Boating invites community groups to enjoy residential short breaks and holidays on its two full-sized canal boats based at Braunston.

The not-for-profit charity, which has been running for over 45 years, relies on volunteers to run the organisation and the canal boat experiences it provides – and is keen to welcome new members to its ranks ahead of another busy season.

Roles are available for people of all ages and backgrounds, including boat handling and skippering, fund-raising, general admin and welcoming guests.

LNBP’s Chairperson Paul Iverson said: “We continue to have a great team at LNBP but, as with all things, we would love to have even more people involved to distribute the duties canalside, on the boats and behind the scenes more evenly.

“As well as the opportunity to make new friends, there is a lot to gain from volunteering with us with chance to learn new skills or further develop existing ones, gain practical work experience or work towards other qualifications such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

“We are always looking towards the future and, with our 50th anniversary being not that far away, it would be great to have more younger members join us and to potentially take us forward into the future.

“Could this be your year, your time and opportunity to give something back to your local community or a charitable organisation?”

The charity welcomes interest from all ages, but is particularly keen to hear from people aged 16 to 25, or anyone with social media graphic design skills or an interest in photography and videography.
