Burglars used chainsaw and gas canisters to break into Lutterworth cashpoint

RAIDERS drove off with cash after breaking into a Lutterworth ATM in the early hours of Saturday morning (October 28).

Thieves broke into the cashpoint at the Post Office in George Street using gas canisters and a chain saw, stealing cassettes containing money and leaving the front of the shop damaged.

The incident was reported to police at 4.24am. Officers believe five people in a dark coloured vehicle were involved.

The shop was cordoned off for forensic examination and a number of enquiries are being carried out including a review of CCTV. No one was has been arrested.




Detective Sergeant David Speight said: “We have had a number of similar incidents recently and we are working with other forces to try and find and arrest those responsible.

“We’d like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in Lutterworth in the early hours of Saturday morning or who saw a dark coloured vehicle in the town either before or after the incident.


“Sometimes the cash containers are thrown away near to the scene so if anyone sees any of those please let us know.”
