IMPROVEMENTS to Warwickshire’s bus services are on the timetable after funds worth £5.5million were secured.
Warwickshire County Council’s (WCC) Cabinet has approved a two-year programme of investment designed to improve the county’s bus network.
The council says the money – funded by the government’s Bus Service Improvement Plan – will allow it to maintain and improve existing bus services.
It will also allow WCC to work with operators to explore increased evening and weekend services, fare initiatives, multi-operator ticketing, and targeted marketing campaigns.
The council also hopes to encourage more people to use buses, which will lead to services which are currently subsidised becoming more commercially viable.
WCC’s transport spokesman Coun Jan Matecki said: “This funding is a fantastic opportunity to not only maintain but also improve bus services across Warwickshire. We know that reliable and frequent buses are vital for connecting people to jobs, education, and essential services.
“This important investment will also enable us to explore ways to make buses a more attractive choice for everyone and a viable alternative to vehicles for journeys as we pursue our net zero ambition for Warwickshire.”
