Cabaret evenings to raise money for vital Rugby charities

Rugby Editorial 13th Jan, 2024   0

ENTRANCING cabaret events starring a stage hypnotist will raise funds and awareness for three vital Rugby charities.

The Poldark Show is staging the trio of events in support of the OurJay Foundation, Fred Bennett’s Don’t Look Down Fund, and The Myton Hospices.

Master stage hypnotist Poldark.

Headlined by master stage hypnotist Poldark, the events will also feature performances by magician and mind reader Angus Baskerville, local bands Midnight and The Record Covers, and local award-winning DJ Rob Facer. Event compere Henrik Court will host games, raffles and prizes throughout the events.

The Our Jay Foundation was launched in 2022 by Naomi Rees-Issitt in memory of her son Jamie, who died suddenly following a cardiac arrest.

The charity aims to raise awareness of the importance of publicly accessible defibrillators and provide training in life-saving skills, and has so far funded the installation of over 100 defibrillators across Warwickshire.

Fred Bennett’s Don’t Look Down Fund was set up with Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) to raise money for research into acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, after Dunchurch lad Fred passed away from the disease in 2020 when he was just 14.

The tens of thousands of pounds raised in his honour since then has allowed CCLG to fund several new research projects – described by Fred’s mum Louise as a ‘powerful legacy’.

The Myton Hospices cares for people with terminal illnesses at its sites in Rugby, Warwick and Coventry, and through its Myton At Home service.

Poldark, who has been performing stage hypnotism for over 30 years, said: “It’s always been really important to me to support charities and, being new to the area, I wanted to support local ones which are close to the hearts of those in the community.

“All three charities are just that, and my team and I are privileged to have been working with Naomi, Louise and Myton Partnership Fund-Raiser Laura Eaton to bring these events to life.”

Arnold House in Rugby is the host of the first event on Friday January 26, with the next two events being held at Draycote Hotel on Friday February 2 and Friday February 9.
