Campaigners call for crossing on Rugby bypass

Rugby Editorial 18th Jun, 2015 Updated: 27th Oct, 2016   0

A DANGEROUS Rugby bypass needs a new pedestrian crossing, according to concerned New Bilton residents who have launched a campaign.

Supporters of the Rugby Western Relief Road Crossing Campaign say people who use the pedestrian and cycle path from Jubilee park to the Western Relief Road (A4071) – many of them students of Avon Valley School – are at risk when crossing the road.

Campaigner Jane Hutchison said: “At peak times, crossing the relief road where the public footpath adjoins it is very difficult and potentially dangerous. Cars are travelling at some speed, and the road is used by many heavy vehicles.

“We need as many adults and children as possible to write to the council that they think it is necessary to make this safer as it is such a difficult road to cross.”

The group has organised a letter-writing session at Rugby Town Hall on Monday (June 22) at 4.30pm.
