Car chase footage released after Rugby man jailed for dangerous driving

AN UNINSURED driver led police on a chase which reached speeds of over 80mph before he lost control and crashed into a hedge.

Police released startling dash-cam footage of the pursuit after Jareth York, 20, of Stowe Drive, was sentenced to eight months in prison after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

The chase began when a Ford Fiesta driven by York sped past an unmarked police car in Bawnmore Road on September 14 and it was flagged by the officer’s number plate recognition camera as having no insurance.

The police car chased him through Rugby and surrounding villages for nearly 20 minutes before colliding with a hedge on a country road.

PC Rich Prior of Warwickshire Operational Policing Unit said: “I hope this video makes people stop and think about their actions and the potential risks they may cause to themselves and others.

“It clearly shows the lengths some people will go to while putting the lives of others at risk.

“I strongly urge everyone to make sure their paperwork and documentation is in order before they get behind the wheel of a car, and not to make a wrong decision that could have serious repercussions.”
