A CHIPPY tea in the open air was enjoyed by residents from a Rugby care home on National Fish and Chip Day.
Overslade House residents went on an outing to The Friendly Bench in Hillmorton on ‘Fryday’ (June 4) for their lunch.
After a quick stop-off at the Hillmorton Fish Saloon in Featherbed Lane, their minibus parked up at the Friendly Bench – a mini community garden with seating in High Street, Hillmorton.
Installed last year, The Friendly Bench is a community garden which helps tackle loneliness and isolation, surrounded by floral displays tended by volunteers from Hillmorton and East Rugby Together Community Group (HEaRT).
Alma and Fiona, activities coordinators at Overslade House, said: “Our residents had a wonderful time watching the world go by.
“We’ve all had such a lovely day. We met with Jill Dwyer, co-chair of HEaRT, at the bench and she gave our residents an update on all the plants and plans for the bench.
“We’re looking forward to bring more of our residents here throughout the summer – although today you can’t beat fish and chips!”
