PARENTS who care for under-18s with additional needs in Rugby are being asked their views on proposed changes to carer support.
Warwickshire County Council (WCC) is reviewing its parent carer support pathway, and has launched a public consultation.
Currently families eligible for support receive a payment towards support – but the council has acknowledged this may not be best for all families, and is seeking views on more flexible options which may better help more people.
The consultation proposals were drawn up following discussions with a number of Warwickshire parents.
WCC children and families spokesman Coun Jeff Morgan said: “We are consulting on this assessment process to ensure we are offering the right support at the right time to all Warwickshire families with children who may have additional needs.
“Every parent or carer in this situation has the right to an assessment, and not enough people are exercising this entitlement.
“We know that one size does not fit all and the current system is not the best approach for everyone. I would urge all parent carers to complete the consultation or attend the public meeting to have their say. In order to successfully build our needs assessment around the real experiences of individuals, sharing ideas and thoughts is crucial.”
Two drop-in sessions on the consultation will take place at Warwick Racecourse on January 20 at 1.30-3.30pm, and January 23 at 6:30 to 8pm.
Call 01926 415106, visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk/ask or email [email protected] for more information and to take part in the consultation.
The consultation closes on February 9.
The final version of the review will be presented to Warwickshire County Council’s Cabinet on April 17.
