Cartoon parrot helps infant school pick up web safety prize

A RUGBY school has demonstrated 360 degrees of knowledge when it comes to online safety.

Bilton Infant School has received a National 360˚ Safe safety online award after it created animated parrot PEGI, to get the importance of internet safety across to the school community.

PEGI soon found fame after children and staff created a rap and – with the help of Jason Moss from Rugby FM – recorded it to use and share in the community.

And PEGI’s rise to fame didn’t stop there after he even starred in his own movie, a stop-motion animation in which he helps his jungle friends stay safe online.

Assessor Sarah Fitzgerald said she was reassured by the efforts put in by the school to address the safeguarding issue.

She added: “It has been a real pleasure to have visited Bilton Infant School to experience the excellent commitment and enthusiasm of the children, staff and governors.

“The hard work and dedication of the Online Safety Officer Miss Osborne and Senior Leadership Team should be praised and it is clearly evident that Online Safety is a top priority at the school and I look forward to revisiting to see the finished PEGI the Parrot movie.”
