Cashless parking comes to Rugby and Warwickshire

STREET parking will be less hassle for Warwickshire motorists following the introduction of a new system that lets you pay for parking with your mobile.

On-street parking across Rugby, Leamington, Warwick, Stratford and Kenilworth can now be paid for using RingGo – a service that allows users to pay for parking online or over the phone.

Councillor Peter Butlin, Warwickshire County Council’s transport spokesman, said the service had been a success in other parts of the country.

He said: “You can still pay for parking with cash, but mobile payment is being introduced as an alternative. This has a number of benefits, including the ability to extend your stay, within the allowed time limit, without having to return to your vehicle.”

Councillor Philip Johnson, Chair of Warwickshire County Council’s Communities Overview & Scrutiny Committee, added it could be a boost to the towns’ economies.

The service – already in use in Stratford-on-Avon off-street car parks – allows users to pay for parking online, via text message or by calling a standard rate telephone number that will be displayed on signs.

Once registered, the service remembers users’ vehicle and payment information and issues text reminders 10 minutes before parking is due to run out.
