Century-old brass band sounds the horn for new members

A CENTURY-old brass band in the Rugby area is sounding the horn for new members.

Dunchurch Band is holding an open rehearsal and a taster session later this month.

The Open Rehearsal is an opportunity for learners at grade 4 or equivalent level to experience playing as part of a brass band, and a chance for anyone interested in learning to play a brass instrument to come along, listen to the band and try an instrument.

The free Training Band Taster Session is suitable for complete beginners, those who have some experience, and those already learning and playing up to grade 3 or 4 standard. Instruments can be provided for those who would like to learn.

Band Secretary Louise Balsom said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who plays brass, or used to, to come along and find out more about Dunchurch Band – and for anyone interested in learning to play a brass instrument to find out about our new Training Band that will be starting in September.

“Or if you like Brass Bands you can just come and listen.”

Dunchurch Band has been making music and entertaining audiences in and around Dunchurch and Rugby since it was formed in 1911.

Louise added: “After some difficult years since Covid, the Dunchurch Band is again thriving and we are excited to be able to announce that we will be launching a new Training Band in September 2024.

“Being able to offer local people the opportunity to learn to play in a brass band is an important part of the Dunchurch Band’s constitutional aims and something we feel is important.”

The open rehearsal takes place on Tuesday July 9, and the taster session on Monday July 15 – both at Dunchurch Village Hall.
