Chance meeting prompts £1,000 donation to Bradby Young Carers

A CHANCE meeting at a private lunch party resulted in a generous donation to help young carers in Rugby.

Collegiate and Provincial Masonic Lodges donated £1,000 towards the Bradby Young Carers.

The donation came about when Gerry Logue, Worshipful Mastee and founder member of Collegiate Masonic Lodge in Coventry, heard that Charles Williams was intending to cook a Christmas Dinner for the Bradby Young Carers.

He was so impressed that he encouraged his fellow Masons to chip in and help the cause.

On the day of the Christmas party, Mayor Maggie O’Rourke, who is also President of the Bradby Club, received a cheque for £1,000 on behalf of the Bradby Young Carers.

Club trustee Alison Ross said: “This money will prove invaluable in the forthcoming year.

“After a tour of the premises, Mr Logue could see how necessary the money was to the continued future of the young carers, and was impressed by the ongoing preparations for the Christmas Party that evening.”

Around 50 young carers, aged from six to 17, all enjoyed their dinner – and all signed a card to give to Mr Williams in appreciation together with a bottle of wine.

Thurlaston Residents Association, organised by Sue Winton, supplied a £10 voucher for each group member, and the Soroptimists donated a selection box for each. Tesco donated vegetables and cakes.
