THE TALE of a parent’s nightmare of trying to land their children the perfect Christmas present is one that many can refer to over the busy festive period.

But I doubt many will have gone through the trials and tribulations of Arnold Schwarzenegger who seemingly goes through hell and back to land his son the coveted toy of the year in Jingle all the Way.

Turbo Man is the must have toy for any young boy in America and Howard Langston (Schwarzenegger) promises to get his son Jamie one for Christmas weeks before the big day.

But when Howard is politely reminded about the toy by his partner on Christmas Eve, all hell breaks loose and the loving father embarks on an epic journey to track down the much sought-after toy.

Jingle all the Way then follows Howard’s journey through apartment stores across New York and along the way he becomes embroiled in a bitter competition with postal worker Myron Larabee who has a rival ambition of landing his son the toy.

The pair repeatedly come up against each other at different locations and soon become sworn enemies.

Back home Howard’s neighbour Ted has already bought his son a Turbo Man and when Howard becomes desperate he is caught trying to steal the doll.

Of course it would not be Christmas without a happy ending and Howard’s foturnes finally take a turn for the better at the annual Christmas parade.

Minutes before Turbo Man’s eagerly anticipated appearance Howard ends up in the costume of the man himself and is thrust into the worlf of a superhero in front of thousands of adoring fans – including son Jamie.

There is one final twist however. Ted’s determination to land his son a doll sees him take on the role as Turbo Man’s arch enemy,  Dementor and the two do battle.

But of course it’s Turbo Man that come out on top and Jamie’s Christmas is made when he realises his dad is in fact his superhero idol.
