Charity pampers Rugby ladies to boost self-esteem

SELF-esteem was given a boost for disabled people in Rugby who were treated to some ‘me time’ by a Rugby charity.

New Directions service users Leanne Orrill, Hayley Nicholls, Rose Hayles, Suzie Smith, Linda Gaynon and Tina Dixon enjoyed makeovers at a pampering afternoon hosted by Infinity Hair and Beauty Salon in Bilton.

The ladies were in high spirits as they indulged themselves in a hair wash, a head massage, a blow dry, a manicure, a buffet and refreshments by owner Kym-Lee Boyz and her colleague Chloe.

Leanne said: “I felt like a princess having the girls wait on me and doing my nails,” while Tina said: “I felt pretty and spoiled.”

Rose enjoyed a dance, Linda said she wanted to look different and looked at pictures of short hairstyles, Suzie was smiling and laughing throughout – and they all said they felt fabulous.

New Directions team leader Lisa Barrett, who organised the event, said: “I would like to thank Kym-Lee and the team for making the day such a special experience for the people with disabilities we support.

“Making others feel beautiful is a gift and we could see the positive and lasting effect that this event has had on all the women instantly.

“Events like this help people with disabilities to boost confidence and self-esteem which in turn makes them feel valued and able to develop relationships and contribute better to the local community.”

New Directions is now considering putting on a men’s pamper afternoon.

The Rugby-based charity provides services including home care, supported living, respite, day activities, residential services, dementia support and transitional support to adults with learning and physical disabilities aged 16 and over, their families and carers.
