A CHARITY which helps families with young children in the Lutterworth area is planting the seeds of its sixth annual Snowdrop Appeal.

Staff from Home-Start South Leicestershire came together at the charity’s HQ to plant snowdrop bulbs which will bloom early in the new year.

Home-Start’s Charity Champions organised donations of bulbs from the community to support the appeal, which runs throughout January and February.

The appeal aims to brighten what can be a challenging time of year for many families by using the snowdrop – an early sign of spring – to represent the resilience, renewed growth and fresh beginnings experienced by families who receive Home-Start’s support.

The charity is encouraging supporters to share photos of snowdrops, which will be displayed on Home-Start South Leicestershire’s social media pages, and to make donations via the charity’s Local Giving page.

Photos will enter a prize draw and winners will receive vouchers from supporting local businesses, including Langton Greenhouse and Garden Centre and Lamport Hall.

Charity Manager Stella Renwick said: “Planting these snowdrops together is a simple act, but it reflects something much bigger. It shows how our community comes together to help families through their most difficult moments.

“Every photo shared and every donation made through the Snowdrop Appeal helps us continue supporting parents who need a little extra warmth and understanding during the winter months.”

The planted bulbs are expected to bloom in time for the peak of the appeal, creating natural displays that mirror the charity’s message of hope, renewal, and brighter days ahead.

The charity will also be selling snowdrop themed greetings cards, created by local designer Marina Berry, and holding other snowdrop-related activities including guided walks and a Name the Plushie competition.

Home-Start South Leicestershire currently supports around 140 families each year, providing emotional and practical help to parents with young children. The Snowdrop Appeal raises vital funds for the charity’s services and fosters community connection during the often difficult post-Christmas period.
