Charity's 40 years helping families with young children is 'amazing achievement'

AN ‘AMAZING’ achievement – a charity which helps families with young children in the Lutterworth area has celebrated its 40th anniversary in style.

Home-Start South Leicestershire invited members of the community to enjoy activities in its newly refurbished garden.

Families, funders and supporters – including Harborough District Council’s Vice Chair Coun Peter James – enjoyed live music by Bob Renwick, book signings by local authors Emily-Jane Clark and Carolyn Parker, and children’s activities.

Local businesses and individuals donated tombola prizes, and parents and volunteers led a bake sale, raising over £180 for the charity.

Chair of trustees Judy Hartland said: “Thank you to everyone who made this event a success.

“Home-Start South Leicestershire supported 154 families last year – 4,003 since we began in 1984. This includes 7,977 children – 5,720 of whom were under five.

“We rely on fundraising and the generosity of our community to help our services to continue reaching those who are most in need of our support.

“40 years is an amazing achievement for a small charity, and we want to be able to continue our work for years to come. We’d also love to hear from any families supported over the years – please do get in touch to share your Home-Start experience.”
