Children and teens treating lockdown like 'public holiday' by gathering in parks and alleyways

‘THIS is not a public holiday’ – that is the message from Rugby Police to children and teens seen gathering in public.

A spokesperson for the town’s police force said they had received reports of youths not complying with social distancing.

They said it was the responsibility of parents or guardians to ensure their children were at home doing school work.

“They should not be out at parks or loitering in alleyways,” the spokesperson said. “Please don’t make it necessary for us to start bringing them home.

“If they need to go out they should be accompanied with a family member from the same household.

“If you don’t know where they are and who they are coming into contact with, how do you know they are not bringing COVID-19 home and putting the whole family at risk?

“This is not a public holiday, it is a national health emergency.”
