Christmas shorts: memorial tree, 'Blue Christmas' service, carol concert

LOVED ones will be remembered at a special memorial Christmas tree for bereaved Rugbeians during the festive season.

John Taylor Funeral Service is inviting friends and family who have lost a loved one to the Regent Street funeral home to decorate the tree with commemorative cards.

The service’s Janet Hyde said: “We know that Christmas and New Year, in particular, are a time when people look back and remember those they’ve lost. We hope our memorial Christmas tree will again help families to make a tribute to their loved ones at this difficult time.”

Memorial cards can be left on the tree until December 22.

A ‘BLUE Christmas’ carol service for people who find Christmas difficult will be held at St Peter and St John’s Church on Wednesday (December 20) at 7pm.

The Clifton Road church’s minister Rev Sheila Bridge said: “Not everyone finds Christmas easy. This service is an opportunity for people who prefer a quieter, more reflective service in which they can remember loved ones or spend time quietly offering up the more difficult aspects of their lives to God.

“All the churches across Rugby offer many wonderful and different opportunities to remember the hope and healing offered to us through the Christmas story, but I hope this service will feel like a safe place for anyone who finds Christmas hard for any reason.”

THE SALVATION Army is holding a Christmas Community Carol Service at its Bennfield Road HQ on Sunday (December 17) at 4pm.

Coffee, tea and mince pies will be served, and a collection for Prostate Cancer UK will be taken.

A Candlelight Carol Service will also be held on Christmas Eve at 4pm.
