CHOIR members who have between them sung for 149 years at a Rugby church have been honoured by the congregation.
Ron Goddard joined St Andrew’s Church as a choirboy in 1941, and – apart from two years’ national service – has sung with the choir ever since.
And fellow singer Alan Savage joined the choir 70 years ago.
Their long service was celebrated at a Sunday family service at the town centre church.
Tributes were paid by the Archdeacon Pastor of Coventry Diocese The Venerable Sue Field, and the church’s director of music Dr Richard Dunster-Sigtermans.
The singers were presented with a cake decorated with the models of two choirboys.
Ron said: “My mother told me: ‘Joining is the voluntary part, you must do your best to keep going’, which I’ve endeavoured to do. The choir has been an important part of my spiritual, musical and social life.”
Alan added: “Within two weeks of joining, we sang Psalm 104. Verse 33 is ‘I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live,’ and it inspired me.”
