Church to become oasis of calm for busy, stressed and lonely Rugbeians

AN OASIS of calm for people with busy lives will be created at a town centre church.

Breathing Space will take place on Friday lunchtimes at St Andrew’s Church.

The new venture is not a religious service – it is a chance for people to find half an hour of peace.

There will be a mixture of reflective music and quiet, and visitors will be able to light a candle for a loved one or write a prayer request for something on their mind.

Church warden Joyce Woodings said: “There’s no sermon, no hymns and no collection. Anyone is welcome to come in and just sit and enjoy the calm.

“Coming to a church service for the first time can be a daunting experience. This is something different. We are creating a time and space and saying ‘just drop in for a few minutes and find some peace.

“People might have many reasons to call in. They may feel stressed or anxious. They may be worried about a family member or a friend. They may be lonely or bereaved. This space is for everyone.”

Breathing Space begins on Friday September 20 from 12.15pm to 12.45pm and continues every week at the same time.

The church is open every day from 10am to 2pm. Its cafe sells tea, coffee and snacks. Visit www.standrewrugby.org.uk for more information.
