Clifton village fete comes back with a bang

CLIFTON’S village fete came back with a bang on Saturday (September 16).

Over 300 people flocked to the South Road Playing Field for the village’s first jamboree in many years, where they were treated to live music, family entertainment, a dog show, and over 30 stalls put on by local charities and food and drink suppliers.

The Parish Council raised around £2,500 which will go towards new local facilities, which will be nominated by residents.

Parish Council Chair Marion Nash said: “I can’t thank the organising committee enough, ably led by Vice Chair Alastair Robinson, for their months of effort and planning to bring this great day together – our first for many years, and I hope our first of many to come.”

Mayor Belinda Garcia, who officially opened the fete, paid tribute to the hard work which made it possible.

She said: “We often hear a lot about local values. In my mind a key value is when people come together to enjoy just having fun as a community, of which this event is a great example.”

Over 100 dogs were entered into the dog show, with Best in Show being awarded to a Bedlington terrier – raising over £120 for dog charity Pawprints in the process.
